Main Walkthrough Getting Started Because The Banner Saga 2 is a direct continuation of the events of The Banner Saga, your first choice in the game is to a) Start a brand new game, based on a previous save game, or b).

At the beginning of this chapter Alette and Rook are hiding from what appears to be a dredge carrying a deer. A combat scenario will occur and afterwards you will have to make a decision regarding the supplies. Rook can say:

  1. 'Forget the supplies, let's get back to Skogr.'
  2. 'If we hurry we can gather them before more dredge appear.' (+15 supplies)
  3. 'Do you think you can handle more of them?'

When you arrive in Skogr, Rook discusses his findings with Iver and the possibility that the dredge broke through Greyhorn. When the dredge arrive in the village Iver instructs Egil to inform the chieftain of what has ocurred and to take Alette with him. Rook can choose to:

  1. 'Go with Egil, Alette'
  2. 'Let them fight, Iver'

If you chose 'go with Egil, Alette'[edit]

Egil and Alette do not fight in the upcoming battle. Tryggvi will be found defending himself against the dredge when go to the houses. He will be laughing while killing tons of dredge. This will give a combat scenario.

After defeating does dredge Iver recommends a second swipe at the houses before going to the great hall. Rook could answer:

  1. 'Got it'
  2. 'Maybe we should skip the houses'

If you chose 'let them fight, iver'[edit]

You will encounter Tryggvi defending against the dredge while laughing. In this combat scenario Alette and Egil will be available to fight. Once the battle is over, Iver tells Rook that he will search the houses. Rook can answer

  1. Keep watch
  2. Argue to head back immeadiately

No matter which option you choose Alette will confront a dredge colossus. Rook can:

  1. Shout at Alette (Egil dies)
  2. Shoot it with an arrow
  3. Run at it, axe ready (Egil dies)

If you choose the 2nd option,

  1. Stop thinking! Shoot the dredge! (Egil is saved)
  2. Shout to get her attention, instead (Egil dies)
  3. Fire safely above the dredge to distract it (Egil dies)

Now you will find yourself with the option of checking the heroes tent and the market tents.

Escaping Skogr[edit]

When you enter the Great Hall, a conversation will occur in which Iver, Rook and the Chieftain of Skogr will take part of. Iver suggests that he should try and distract the dredge while everyone escapes. The chieftain suggests making a run for it with everyone. Rook has to decide which option to take.

  1. 'That sounds like suicide, Iver. Let's do as the chieftain says.'
  2. 'What if we set the town on fire as we left?'
Oddleif will join in battle as an archer. Alette will only join you in battle if you let her. Egil will also join you if he didn't die earlier.

if you chose 'that sounds like suicide, iver. let's do as the chieftain says'[edit]

These next choices and battles will also be available if you chose 'Let's all just get out here, like the chieftain suggested'.

After winning the first battle, Rook will find himself amidst chaos where he has to make an important choice.

  1. Help the fighters (+20 Renown; Chieftain lives if you win the second battle after choosing this option)
  2. Try to keep everyone together (+20 Renown; Chieftain dies; lowers caravan morale)
Guide

if you chose 'iver's right. I'll help with the distraction.'[edit]

The following choices will also be available if you chose 'Iver usually knows what he's talking about. I'll join him.'

For this choice you will only have to fight one battle.

The difference comes if you permitted Alette to join Rook in battle or not. If Alette joined Rook in battle, you will gain20 Renown points, but the Chieftain will die. If Alette did not join Rook in battle, she will end up saving the Chieftain and you will gain 30 Renown for keeping him alive.

If you chose 'do we abandon the storehouse' and later chose 'we can't afford to leave the food behind'[edit]

After the first battle, all the supplies will have scattered everywhere and Rook will have to make a choice of what to do.

  1. Help the fighters (Fight a 2nd battle; Chieftain lives if you win the 2nd battle; +20 Renown)
  2. Try to keep everyone together (+20 Renown; Chieftain dies; carvan morale decreases)
  3. Get Iver to help retake the supply carts. (Fight a 2nd battle; If the 2nd battle is won, you will gain extra supplies; Chieftain dies; morale decreases; +15 Renown)

Road to Frostvellr
[edit]

After a few days you find yourself stopping in the godstone of Hridvaldyr. It is recommended you inspect the godstone to get the achievement/trophy and get the Bjarken Rune item from a girl in your caravan.

Later on you will find yourself arriving at another village where you will encounter Hogun and Mogun asking Rook to join his caravan. The town leader is completely against them leaving and taking some of the villagers. He decides to provoke the twins by bringing some thugs with him. Here the player can choose to:

  1. 'There won't be anything to tend once the dredge arrive'
  2. 'Let your people decide on their own.'
  3. 'I don't want anything to do with this'
  4. Say nothing

What is decided at this point can provoke your choice to battle or not. Either way you will have to make a final choice to:

  1. 'Settle this yourselves'; don't get involved (+5 Renown; Hogun and Mogun join caravan; morale decreases; +some supplies)
  2. 'I won't kill men for defending their homes'; side with the villagers. (+15 Renown, +many supplies; Hogun and Mogun don't join the caravan)
  3. 'Iver, let's make this a fair fight'; side with the brothers (+10 Renown; Hogun and Mogun join caravan; +some supplies)

Frostvellr
[edit]

When you arrive you see many masses of people from different villages outside the gate. Appareantly the chieftain of Frostvellr decided to lock himself inside. Now you the player has to choose one of many options that will determine the fate of many characters in the near future.

Oddleif suggests exploring the area before taking action and Iver suggests to take immedeate action and go to the gates.

  1. We're getting in the walls somehow
  2. I want to know more about what's going on in there
  3. Let's lay low for now and see what happens
  4. Where else could we go?
  5. I don't know what to do

If you choose any other option other than the 1st one, you have the choice to rest one day. If you do rest and decide not to go for the gate then you can make the following choices.

  1. Check out the water passage
  2. Tend to the wounded
  3. Settle in for the long haul
  4. Rest for a day
  5. Leave and try something else

If you choose to tend to the wounded you have the option of ambushing a food cart that has been going around. If afterwards you decide to rest another day, an angry mob will form outside the gates which gets Hogun and Mogun wanting to enter the city as well, if you decide not to go with them, they will most likely die.

If by any chance you choose Settle in for the long haul, the chapter will end. If you do not choose this option, there are three other variants from which you can pick

The Gate[edit]

There are various ways to reach the conclusion of getting into the city through the gates.

First, you will have to press the flashing icon of the gate. Here you will find the situation very dire since there are archers at the gate just in case the mob tries to make a push into the city. Then you will have to choose between.

  1. 'Iver, did you really expect to push these gates open?
  2. Find out more from the crowd.
  3. Shout at the guards on the wall.
  4. Leave the gates and try something else.

Choosing the 1st option will cause a battle scenario at the gates. Choosing the 2nd option will provide you with information regarding a water passage where you could sneak into the city.

You can go through the gate scenario anytime the player wishes, but there is a commotion that might force Rook to take action and attack the gate. Hogun and Mogun take part in an angry mob that wants to attack the gate. If you decide not to go with them, they will most likely die.

Once you get into Frostvellr, you will have a conversation with Ekkill.

Banner Saga 2 Guide

The waterway[edit]

If you choose to check out the water passage, Iver will let you know that he cannot fit through and will be waiting for you in front of the gates. After this a battle will occur, in which you cannot use Iver, and later on you will encounter Ekkill and have a conversation with him.

the food cart[edit]

After you rest the first time, Alette will recommend helping the wounded refugees. If you choose this option they will tell you about a food cart that is giving food to the refugees. Rook could either

  1. Wait and ambush the next cart
  2. We'll wait and confront them
  3. Leave the food cart alone

If you choose the 1st option, you will instantly enter a battle scenario. If you choose the 2nd option, you will encounter Onef and he will give the opportunity to enter the city and talk to Ekkill. Rook will have to choose between the following possible outcomes of the conversation

  1. 'I don't think so. We're done here' (The chapter ends)
  2. 'I think we'll just take this cart ourselve, instead'
  3. 'Fine. Let's go.

If you choose the 2nd option there will be a batte for the food cart. If you choose the 3rd option, Onef will take you to meet Ekkill inside Frostvellr.

If you chose to battle for the food cart, a second battle will be fought at the gates. After this battle, Ekkill will approach Rook and have a conversation with him.

The Final Choice
[edit]

If you decide to settle in for the long haul or confront the people with the food cart and choose 'I don't think so. We're done here'; the chapter will end.

If you choose any other variant, you will arrive inside Frostvellr with Ekkill and will have to make a choice that will have it's own repercussions in Chapter 4. Ekkill will give you the option of

  1. 'We'll join you. For now'
  2. 'We'll fend for ourselves.'
  3. 'We're not staying here. Let us out.'

In Chapter 4 the repercussions of each choice will be discussed.
