In a recent Windows Update (February 23, 2014) the BlueTooth Raelink Driver update for Windows 8.1 was included as part of a Windows 8.1 update package, the update never finished installing and prevented the rest of the updates from getting installed.

The fix had to include a System Restore, multiple reinstalling of the other updates and lost features of the PC, like the sound in the account picture.

If the System Restore would have failed, it also meant a regression to 8.0 and a loss of all files and software that was installed. This would have meant over 1000 in technical support and rebuying of all the software, since new policies do not allow for a replacement via disk like in the old days.

It took seven hours of work by two different maintenance teams (HP and Microsoft) to restore the computer.

The BlueTooth update was excluded from the update, it had to be done manually, since automatic updates (the recommended method) would not allow this exclusion.

As far as I know, nobody has taken responsibility for this damage and the responsible company was never notified.

So, I am taking the steps to notify the community of this possible problem to their PCs.
