When a computer boots up, the MSI motherboard BIOS is controlling the boot process -- it checks power, CPU, RAM and devices attached to the system, which is called the POST (or Power On Self Test) phase. After this, the BIOS hands over the computer to your operating system. If you're having trouble getting your computer to POST (usually referred to as not booting up), you'll need to enter the BIOS to change some settings or diagnose beep codes.
2.Press the 'Delete' key while the system is booting up to enter the BIOS.
There is normally a message similar to 'Press Del to enter SETUP,' but it can flash by quickly.
On rare occasions, 'F2' may be the BIOS key.
3.Change your BIOS configuration options as needed and press 'Esc' when done. Choose 'Save & Exit' to save your changes.
Tips
- Most MSI motherboards are an AMI or Award BIOS. Check with your motherboard manufacturer if you're looking to upgrade the BIOS.
- If the computer boots too quickly to get into the BIOS easily, set the BIOS delay option (or 'POST' delay) to give you a few seconds.
- The 'Quiet' or 'Silent' boot option usually displays a splash screen instead of any information about the BIOS and computer. Disabling this can be helpful for future troubleshooting.
Warning
- Setting an administrator BIOS password can keep the computer more secure, but losing the password may require you to contact the motherboard manufacturer to get in to the BIOS.
