Update 1:

I copied my WAN drivers from my old hard drive that had Windows 10 1511 installed (when my WAN NIC worked)

The files I copied over from the drive were called: Rtlihvs.dll & rtwlane.sys

I found the NEWEST drivers by the SAME name in my Windows 10 1607 system32 and system32/driver folders

I renamed the NEWEST Rtlihvs.dll & rtwlane.sys with .OLD at the end of each and moved them OUT of the system32 and system32/driver folder.

I then copied the OLD Rtlihvs.dll & rtwlane.sys into the system32 and system32/drivers folders

I rebooted to advanced startup and disabled driver enforcement

VIOLA! I can now connect to 5GHz networks, as well as 2.4GHz networks.

Driver set information:

Working Driver Set Information: Rtlihvs.dll - 703.1024.401.2013 - rtwlane.sys - 2023.4.720.2015

Driver Set NOT Working: Rtlihvs.dll - 704.3.1112.2015 - rtwlane.sys - 2023.30.301.2016 or 2023.31.315.2016

I had this problem fixed by installing old drivers (which somehow is a joke and a security issue, but it worked). However, the latest Windows 10 creators update ruined everything. Now, it's again the 2016 driver, same connectivity problems, and somehow I can't install any old driver, as it automatically resets to the 2016 version.

MS, fix this!

Hi Microsoft,

Ron and Lukas suggested a great idea. In fact, I just saw my windows update (Houston,Texas 4:52 A.M. CST) take care of the rtlihvs.dll 703.1024.401.2013 but not the rtwlane.sys 2023.4.720.2015. What gives with the half work?

Please provide another update or the file for use to update ourselves.

Hi Michelle,

My issues is exactly as Giovanni outlined, step for step. Drivers are all up to date.
Windows ran a update yesterday and now has rtlihvs.dll 703.1024.401.2013 but it didn't make changes for the rtwlane.sys 2023.4.720.2015. According to Giovanni manual tests, both files need to be downgraded to their respective versions listed.

If I try to access a 5ghz wifi connection, I get a BSOD with a stop code

Kernel_Security_Check_Failure.

My PC setup is exactly the same:

My Rig: Asus ROG G20AJ

Windows 10 Home

DISM did not work. I still BSOD with stop code Kernel_Security_Check_Failure.

Thanks,

Travis N

Hi Michelle,

I created a support ticket in Asus and get this reply:

Please copy and paste the link here to download the driver -http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/DigitalHome/DAV/PT2001/AIO_DT_Wifi_100247_W781.zip?_ga=2.10896496.59023906.1494440475-2122564731.1490122668

I suggest you create a ticket with your serial# in Asus support site to secure an acurate driver. My configuration is Windows 10 64bit, Asus G20AJ.

hope this help.

Ron

Hi Everyone,

After a long and tedious testing of many drivers for many weeks, the drivers I have mentioned below solved all my problems. I own an Asus ROG G20AJ which has Realtek 8821AE. I know you may be wondering, those mentioned are for Realtek 8821CE but believe me you won't be disappointed. It took me a lot of time and effort to figure it out. You will see a day and night difference ;).
